Dvara 18 · Repairing Decay

Repairing what has decayed: stir people up and strengthen their spirit.

Instinct centre · Manipura chakra · hexagram 18 of the I Ching

The gift

The urge to correct what has gone wrong. It notices decay and wants to repair it, so things work better.

The shadow

Constant criticism of self and others; finding fault where nothing needs fixing.

Every dvara has both. Which one shows depends on awareness, circumstances and the people around you, not on the dvara itself.

When you carry dvara 18

In the Dvara Method, if a planet sat in this 5.625° slice of the zodiac at your birth, or about 88 days before it, dvara 18 is part of your chart. It belongs to the Instinct centre, which governs instinct, health and timing, and sits in the Manipura chakra.

On its own it is an open dvara: a quality you have access to, but one that reaches for a partner. It completes a channel only when its partner dvara is also present: 58. That partner can come from your own chart, from another person's chart, or from a passing transit. When it does, the Instinct centre becomes defined, and the channel's energy becomes a consistent part of you or of the relationship.

Channel through dvara 18

Channel 18-58 · Correction

With dvara 58 · The Joyous Lake in the Root centre

A joyful drive to improve what is flawed. Noticing what is not working and having the energy to fix it, which others can feel as criticism.

Cultivating dvara 18

The Dvara Method teaches that a dvara you were not born with can still be developed through contemplation. The quality to cultivate here is: Repairing what has decayed: stir people up and strengthen their spirit. The Sun spends about six days in this dvara each year (around 27 September to 2 October), and the Moon passes through it roughly every 27 days, which makes natural times to practise.

Dvara 18 occupies the same slice of the zodiac as hexagram 18 of the I Ching. If you know the 64 gates from Human Design, it corresponds to gate 18. The Dvara Method is independent and reads it in its own words.
